American BBQ, Craft Beer, High Protein Recipes
- Local delicacies steer Jack while writing on the road, especially American BBQ, British pub culture, Basque pintxos, German pork dishes, and British Indian cuisine.
- A keen cook since his mid-teens, Jack's repertoire has expanded to include his favourite international dishes, including Franconian Schäufele, Texas baby back ribs, and spicy Naga curry. He also enjoys preparing the occasional dessert, especially crème brûlée and vanilla cheesecake, and after visiting the Scottish Highlands, deep-fried Mars bars.
- Jack is a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), which advocates for pub culture across the United Kingdom and hosts the annual Great British Beer Festival.
Experience
Jack is a writer covering cuisine and film. During his travels, he has found that locals often give enthusiastic answers to questions about their region's food and drink, whether it be brewery culture in Franconia, BBQ in Austin, Cullen skink in Fort William, or po-boys, jambalaya and chicory-blend coffee in New Orleans. At home and abroad, Jack tends to restrict indulgence to when he's eating out and balances this with a high protein, low carb diet at home (with a dash of beer and wine, of course). Novelties wear thin even with the best dishes, so Jack is always looking for new ways to prepare beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and seafood. Outside of Tasting Table, you can find collections of Jack's writing at Rotten Tomatoes and Authory.
Education
Jack has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in military history.
