- Alice relishes a food mission (especially an international one), and recent highlights include scouring the streets of Bangkok for the best vegetarian Pad Thai, fangirling over Mbah Satinem's Netflix-famous jajan pasar stall at 5:30 a.m. in Yogyakarta, and learning how to make tempeh in Bali.
- Her foodie status was shaken up by an irritable bowel syndrome diagnosis in 2019, which prevented her from eating wheat, onion, or garlic.
- After several years of adjustment, Alice's love of food was reignited, and she now finds joy in helping others have delicious, soulful culinary experiences while navigating complex dietary requirements.
Experience
Alice is a freelance writer and personal trainer from Aotearoa, New Zealand, with over a decade of writing experience spanning website copywriting, newsletters, annual reports, grant writing, blog posts, social media captions, press releases, and feature articles. She began her career writing New York and London-focused culture and travel pieces for a small online magazine. From there, Alice became the resident Health Education Writer for Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand and the social media manager for a local food truck collective. She has written for various publications, non-profit organizations, and community groups, and, most recently, she's been spilling her secrets about all the best places to eat and things to do in New Zealand for The Urban List. Alice is fascinated by how food connects people, even when language cannot, and is interested in how traditional diets are informed by the local planetary biospheres and cultural beliefs. In 2022, Alice created a freelance copywriting service called Impactful, which provides bold, sassy, and ethical website copywriting for people who care about the world and everything in it. She joined Tasting Table in 2023 and is excited to continue waxing lyrical about good food.
