Blue Hawaiian Cocktail Recipe
You don't have to be on vacation to eat and drink like you're on vacation. This blue Hawaiian cocktail gives off tropical vibes, from its bright oceanic color, to the addition of rum, coconut milk, and pineapple juice. Recipe developer Jennine Rye came up with this drink recipe that would be great for a party or intimate happy hour for one.
"First of all, I love the color. It's such a strong and striking tone of blue — it's unusual for a drink and is so pretty," Rye raves. "The flavor is just as vibrant as the color; it's really refreshing, well-balanced, sweet, fruity, and an [all-around] tropical delight." Rye also suggests her favorite occasion to serve this fun blue drink. "It's a great, speedy, and visually-impressive drink to know and throw together for an evening at home or with friends. It's also a lovely summery drink, due to the bright and tropical fruit flavors, so it would be great served at a [barbecue]," she shares.
Gather the ingredients for this blue Hawaiian cocktail recipe
You will only need to get a few ingredients to make this tropical drink. Pick up blue curaçao, white rum, vodka, pineapple juice, coconut milk, lime, and sliced pineapple. The recipe also calls for 1 optional ingredient — a maraschino cherry to garnish.
"This blue Hawaiian is a deliciously-balanced blend of tropical flavors. The pineapple gives the drink a sweetness and a tang, which is complemented and enhanced by the fresh lime," Rye says. "The blue curaçao also has a sweet, citrus, orange-like taste, which adds to the tropical flavor. The coconut mellows the drink out slightly, giving it a light, creamy edge — it's dangerously delicious."
Shake the cocktail ingredients
Add the blue curaçao, white rum, vodka, pineapple juice, and coconut milk to the cocktail shaker. Then, add the lime juice, and ice to the cocktail shaker. Place the lid back on the shaker, and vigorously shake for 15 seconds, until the cocktail shaker is cold to the touch.
Strain and serve the drink
Fill a glass with ice, and then strain the cocktail into the cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of pineapple, or a maraschino cherry, optionally.
This blue Hawaiian cocktail makes a great happy hour drink, but Rye also shares a few foods that it pairs well with. "This drink pairs well with fresh barbecue flavors, bright punchy salads, chicken and fish tacos, or really anything that you'd want on your dinner table at the height of summer," she notes.
